Welcome to the Wiki page for your final essay. As discussed in class, you will be given a picture prompt. I will begin the essay with a paragraph about the picture. You are to add onto the story, moving the story forward, in paragraph form. Use my paragraph as an example of my expectations for you, and how the paragraphs need to be set up. This portion of the exam is worth 30 points towards the total exam grade. Here are a few tips:
1) Don't wait until the last minute. The LAST day that you can add to the Wiki is WEDNESDAY 6/16 by 6:00 pm- FOR BOTH CLASSES OF ITALIAN IV! At 6:01 pm - everyone will be LOCKED OUT of their class wiki and can NOT contribute towards the essay, giving them a 0 for this portion.
2) Go to the CORRECT page for your class. There are TWO pages - one for PERIOD 1 and another for PERIOD 11. Be sure you're on the right page.
3) To to your page - click EDIT at the top right corner of the page. Then you can begin writing (or cutting and pasting) in the appropriate spot. Please DO NOT put your contribution BEFORE another's unless it is necessary for the flow of the story and would not make that person's paragraph not make sense anymore! Don't forget - I CAN SEE THE HISTORY. Just because someone snuck in ahead of you doesn't mean you can be discourteous. If you have any problems - please post me a message on the Discussion page. Check often for a response.
4) DO NOT FORGET TO SAVE what you've done and keep it CLEAN AND SCHOOL APPROPRIATE! What I think is appropriate - not YOU! Anything even REMOTELY inappropriate will be deleted and you will get an automatic ZERO. There's no reason to "go there." So DON'T. Consider yourself WARNED. I WANT A HAPPY ENDING! NO DEATH, NO DRUGS....just HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY at the end!!!
5) DO NOT write a series of random sentences that don't make any sense to the story. It will confuse the people who have to come AFTER you and you will get a 0 for your contribution. If I have no idea what you're talking about - again, you will receive a 0. I will be monitoring the progress of the story daily. If I write IGNORE THE ABOVE - the writer receives a 0 for their contribution and the person that writes after that should refer to the one BEFORE the ignored paragraph to add onto. If you choose not to participate, that is your choice. All I ask is that you be courteous to the OTHER people in the class who are concerned about their grade.
6) You will be graded on your grammar AND content. Remember your audience. If you had to look up a slew of words, chances are the people who come after you don't know what you're talking about either. Try to keep your new vocabulary to a minimum. I MAY come in and add a translation of a word or two because it IS important to the story and couldn't have been avoided. However, ALWAYS look for an alternate way to say something rather than to use vocab that no one will understand.
7) You can add sentences throughout the story if you feel more comfortable doing it this way, instead of in 1 paragraph all at once.
8) Unfortunately, on a Wiki, you can't tell who is and isn't on at the same time. My suggestion would be - when you begin writing - write something (in English) to signify that you are on presently. Then click save, wait, then refresh the screen to see if anyone responds. PLEASE BE AWARE that you are ALL working on this simultaneously and be courteous to someone who is working at the time you want to. That all has to be worked out by YOU. My advice would be - A) don't monopolize the wiki THINKING. Have your paragraph worked out in another format (say a word doc) so that your time editing on the wiki is merely cut and paste. B) REFRESH after you've saved your contribution to be sure it's where you want it to be. Someone may have snuck in where you didn't expect. Just fix what you said to match what the previous person did. C) CHECK PERIODICALLY. Just because you posted, doesn't mean you're DONE. YOU have to be sure your contribution is saying what you want it to say, WHERE you want it to be said. If you have to move it - then move it. If you have to edit it - then edit it.
9) Extra points will be assessed for the use of the following grammatical conventions. If your contribution paragraph is PERFECT (highly unlikely) these points will be added to the Scan-Tron section of the exam. They have to be done CORRECTLY and APPROPRIATELY to receive the points. And don't go crazy with rapid fire succession of grammatical supremacy!! You get a 5 extra point MAXIMUM. I will, however, consider additional points if it's over and above - it's used where it should be used - and it's not just a blatant attempt at grasping for points having no idea why you used what you used, where you used it! It HAS to make sense. P.S. - I just LOOK stupid.
